RE: Corporation Counsel Job Description
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of a proposed job description for Corporation Counsel.
BACKGROUND:
This Board approved the creation of a separate Corporation Counsel office in December of 2023. In doing so, the job description needed to be updated. Chairman Avery charged Commissioner Weighill, Chairman of Government Operations Committee, to review and update the job description for Corporation Counsel. The attached draft is the result of that work.
DISCUSSION:
Commissioner Weighill worked to update the job description for Corporation Counsel. In his review, he sampled several counties that have a separate corporation counsel office and included those specifications that best met the needs of Genesee County. Once a draft was created, Commissioner met with Chairman Avery to review and forward the final document.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
Human Resources was consulted in this process and will adapt the draft job description as a new template moving forward.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
There is no impact on the budget for this job description.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
There is no impact on facilities.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
There is no impact on technology.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
In creating this new position, we are embracing a lean management philosophy for the future Corporation Counsel office. Adapting this position to county needs will help to better address and fit departmental, elected officials, and county agency needs.
