RE: Amendment to Genesee County's Purchasing Policy to require prevailing wage
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of a request to amend Genesee County's Purchasing Policy to require prevailing wage and follow updated policy format.
BACKGROUND:
Several years ago, the State of Michigan removed the ability of local units of government to require prevailing wage on certain projects. Genesee County previously updated the Purchasing Policy to comply with that requirement.
DISCUSSION:
During the current legislative session, the State of Michigan changed course and now allows local units of government to require prevailing wage. The law took effect earlier this year. Genesee County fully understands the benefits of paying workers prevailing wage for our local communities and residents and encourages other units of local government to follow our lead.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
There will be no impact on Human Resources.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
There will be no impact on the current budget.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
Facilities will need to be mindful of this change as they seek qualified contractors for work being performed.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
There is no impact on Technology with this request.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
The requirement of prevailing wage will help to further the County's priority of Community Growth by working to raise wages of Genesee County residents.
