RE: 2025 Crime Victims Services Grant
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Authorization to apply for annual grant in the amount of $408,595.00 from MDHHS for Crime Victims Services for FY2025.
BACKGROUND:
The Prosecutor's Office is mandated under the Crime Victim Rights Act, P.A. 87 of 1985 and Article 1, Section 24 of the Michigan Constitution to provide victims of crimes with certain services and advocacy in the criminal justice system. DISCUSSION:
This grant is an annual award from the State that is a significant source of monies for our budget.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
No change in the current staffing structure.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The award allocation for FY2024 is $408,595.00 which includes $389,893.00 for salaries and fringes and $18,702.00 in ancillary funds for direct victim services (e.g. bus fare to court, lunch money during long court sessions, parking, childcare and pet care as needed, etc.). There are no matching funds required for this grant. However, the County's general fund covers the cost gap between the grant award and the actual costs for the three employees assigned to this grant which is expected to be around 8-10% of the total costs in FY2025.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
None
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
None
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
