title
RE: Updated Genesee County Travel Policy

recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approve the updated Genesee County Travel Policy.
BACKGROUND:
Genesee County's Travel Policy was last updated five years ago. As part of our review of existing policies, it was determined that this policy should be updated to include new information and requirements that better align with Genesee County's needs.
DISCUSSION:
The current Travel Policy is over 10 pages long and includes topics that are no longer used or relevant. This update streamlines the policy and condenses the information to include only necessary and relevant information. The major changes include updating per diem rates to match the GSA schedule, requires the use of a booking tool for airlines that is chosen by the Board Office to help control costs, streamlines the approval process to mirror other Document Review items, clarifies reporting requirements, and requires Board approval for unbudgeted travel requests.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
There is no additional impact on Human Resources with this update.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
There is no additional impact on the budget with this update.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
There is no additional impact on the budget with this update.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
There is no additional impact or requirement for technology with this update.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
The Board of County Commissioners have adopted Long Term Financial Stability as a priority area of focus. This update embraces a lean management philosophy by reducing regulations while still accomplishing our goal of efficiently managing our finances while also providing professional growth experiences for our staff.
