RE: Subrecipient Contract for Bendle Community Schools to offer WIC Services
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Request to approve a Subrecipient Contract Amendment between the Genesee County Health Department (GCHD) and Bendle Community Schools (Health Clinic) to offer WIC services. Subrecipient will be paid $23,000 per year to provide WIC services at the school health clinic. Contract would be valid from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025, and is MDHHS grant funded from Account 2210-608.02-801.000.
BACKGROUND:
WIC and Bendle Community Schools have worked together for almost a decade offering WIC services to eligible clients at the Bendle School Health Clinic. Unfortunately, during COVID, when schools were intermittently closed, these services waivered. It is our hope to rekindle this collaboration as WIC is a proven program that provides healthy foods, nutrition and breastfeeding education and referrals to other community services. Furthermore, Bendle health clinic supports young children in their health center and many students are eligible for WIC. Providing WIC services at the health clinic is a one stop shopping experience for students at the school.
DISCUSSION:
We would like to continue collaborating as it is mutually beneficial to GCHD, Bendle schools and most importantly mothers, infants and children needing healthy food, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to other community resources. WIC is a grant funded program, and no county appropriation is needed.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
There is no expected impact on Human Resources as existing staff will be used.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
This collaborative work is in the annual budget.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
There is no expected impact on facilities.
