RE: Furniture Purchase

recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
To approve the request to order furniture from the county vendor, Kentwood, at up to $57,584.33 for new staff added due to the reorganization of the office and additional office space provided by the County. Part of the $57,584.33 will pay the previous invoice order of $16,484.06.
BACKGROUND:
Due to the Prosecutor's reorganization, there have been around 23 new staff members added to the office. In addition, the Prosecutor's office was provided additional office space on the second floor of the McCree building, whether this is temporary or permanent is currently unknown at this time. The office space did not include any office furniture for staff.
DISCUSSION:
After adding several new staff to the office, we have been mindful of reusing and repurposing office furniture. We have narrowed down our office's needs to provide new furniture in limited spaces of the Prosecutor's office. The additional space provided to our office on the second floor of the McCree building needs many furniture pieces as this space was left completely vacant. Also, due to the aging of some of the furniture, and the lasting impact of two water damage events -replacement pieces needed to be purchased for other spaces throughout the office. Additionally, we plan to purchase new furniture for larger offices repurpose as shared space for some of our employees who are working as a team. Part of this request is that our office had previously ordered and had furniture installed that costs $16,484.06, not realizing that our office's total furniture request for the fiscal year will exceed the $30,000 limit, so that is why this has been brought before the Board.
