BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval to establish GIS Specialist position.
BACKGROUND:
At the outset of the creation of the GIS department over 20 years ago, three higher level staff positions were determined to be the essential minimum needed to adequately fulfill the responsibilities that were envisioned. Within a few years the department achieved that staffing but then regressed from about 2006 till 2020. In 2020 we established an entry-level position of GIS Technician.
DISCUSSION:
As our capabilities have grown, there is a need to better align the staff positions with the workload and anticipated work activities. A larger proportion of our work requires high level skills so ideally our positions should align with the need. This will increase efficiency with two GIS Specialists where we can be more flexible in task assignment. This will also bring us more in line with the original plan as well as other counties of similar size and composition.

Very modest, position cost increase of $2,439 to account 1010-246.00-702.000.
