BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) requests authorization from this committee to accept carryover funds for the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) 1 - 2025 from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) in an amount not to exceed $1,001,077.00, with a recommendation of approval by the full Genesee County Board of Commissioners at their next regularly scheduled meeting.
BACKGROUND:
Carryover funds in an amount not to exceed $1,001,077.00 from MDHHS for CSBG 1 - 2025 to commence October 1, 2024, and continue through September 30, 2025, is the continuation of a two-year grant originally approved by the Board of Commissioners via RES-2023-306.
DISCUSSION:
These funds give GCCARD an opportunity to work through a network of Community Action Agencies for the reduction of poverty, the revitalization of low-income communities, and the empowerment of low-income families and individuals in rural and urban areas to become fully self-sufficient. Acceptance of carryover funds for the second year of the two-year CSBG 1-2025 will offer supplemental funding within GCCARD's Nutrition Services and USDA Supplemental Food programs, as well as the Neighborhood Services Center. CSBG 1-2025 funds are to be utilized for both administration and direct program.
