recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
On 07/24/2024 (RESO #24-316) the Board of Commissioners approved the application to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Grant. The Genesee County Specialty Courts, specifically the Adult Felony Recovery Court and Veteran's Treatment Court Programs, are requesting authorization to accept a 5-year grant. The current 5-year grant cycle ends on 9/30/2024 and this funding is integral to continuation of these new programs, staffing the programs, and continuation of treatment services for participants. A facet of this approval of our application renews our contract with REA, who currently assists with our SAMHSA grant, to assist with continuation and evaluation of the grant for another 5-year period. The MOU is attached to this resolution.
BACKGROUND:
Genesee County Specialty Courts have been in operation for many years and have been primarily grant funded. The approval to apply for the SAMHSA grant is essential to continuing the daily operations of the Specialty Courts, specifically Adult Felony Recovery Court and Veterans Treatment Court.
DISCUSSION:
This grant is utilized to ensure that the specialty courts can maintain services and assist 60 participants per year with the cost of drug testing, incentives, and treatment services. To assist with grant utilization, SAMHSA has approved expanded participant drug of choice categories - not only the opiate track participants as our current grant cycle specifies.
