RE: Approval of an Emergency Purchase to repair jet rodder truck for GCDC-SWM
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Drain Commissioner's Office requests approval to spend funds to repair necessary maintenance equipment
BACKGROUND:
The Current jet rodder truck is a 2009 and the pump has never had a major overhaul. Recently it has lost pressure and was sent to JDC where technician found that pump basically had to be rebuilt and this equipment is unusable without. While at JDC additional repairs were identified that were wither a safety issue or were necessary for the vehicle to meet Dept of Transportation (DOT) requirements.
DISCUSSION:
The Maintenance Crew for the Drain Office- Surface Water Management is responsible for maintaining the storm sewers under our jurisdiction to prevent and correct flooding. This equipment is integral to doing that work. Approval of expense is requested to do repairs as quickly as possible so our crew has all the necessary tools needed to effectively do maintenance and repairs to our storm sewers. Jet rodder trucks are custom assembled on a standard chasse and this one was built/ put together by JDC, who has all the necessary info to repair. Also, the next closest place that can do this work is in Ohio. We consider JDC to be a sole provider for these repairs. To fund the Pos, the repairs are already encumbered in our 2024-2025 FY budget. The 2 estimates together equal $32,515.51. We are asking for approval of $35,000 to make sure that there is enough for any unforeseen changes. These repairs would be paid for out of 6390-443.00-931.000 instead of General Fund.
