recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of a contract with Genesee Health System (GHS) whereby GHS will provide mental health assessments, evaluation, and services for youth on probation for a term commencing October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025, at a cost of $65,000 to be paid from account 2920-664.00-868.014. The services are a part of the approved childcare fund annual plan and budget.
BACKGROUND:
GHS will provide mental health assessments, evaluation, and services for youth who are on probation. The mental health assessments help in identifying unaddressed mental health issues and assist in case planning for youth on probation.
DISCUSSION:
Youth involved in the juvenile justice system are increasingly presenting with significant mental health and trauma issues. To properly support their needs, it is important to assess and evaluate the need for further mental health and trauma treatment. GHS provides licensed clinicians who conduct a mental health screening (MAYSI) and a trauma screening (CATS) on every youth that comes before the court. The screening tools help drive case planning and assess the need for further evaluation and treatment.
