BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Genesee County Parks and Recreation staff requests the approval to apply for a grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund to develop a greenhouse at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum. Grant Amount Request: $80,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
With an increasing interest and priority in sustainability and conservation, Parks can strengthen its relationship with communities, demonstrating environmental stewardship, providing environmental education and awareness, and promote biodiversity and ecosystem health, with the development of a greenhouse at For-Mar to grow native plants and annuals for use in the parks system.
DISCUSSION:
Developing a greenhouse at For-Mar Nature Preserve & Arboretum will increase our available resources and services to residents and visitors of Genesee County.
Grant applications to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources requires a certified resolution.
This grant will require a 26% match from millage funds and in-kind labor.
NO USE OF GENERAL FUND.
