BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
To approve contract with Mott Children’s Health Center to provide dental screenings to local kindergarten aged children.
BACKGROUND:
DISCUSSION:
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) recently mandated that all Michigan kindergartners receive a dental screening prior to entry to first grade. As part of this mandate, The Health Department received funding to support and oversee these efforts in Genesee County. The Health Department seeks to partner with Mott Children’s Health Dental Center (MCHC) to provide these services. MCHC has dental staff in place to go into all local schools and provide this screening, free of charge to local families.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:
MDHHS has allotted funding to the Health Department to provide this service. Financial Services has created a line for contract services within the budget. Not to exceed $64,626.00; Funding Account 2211.607.02-801.000 - Contract Services; Funding Source 2211-607.02-558.000 - State Participation. For a Period from May 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024. No county appropriation is needed

MCHC will utilize funding from the Health Department in order to provide staff for this service.
TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Medical Health Officer to authorize entering into a contract between Genesee County and Mott Children’s Health Center whereby the contractor will provide dental screenings to kindergarten-aged children in Genesee County schools for the period commencing May 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025, at a cost not to exceed $64,626.00 to be paid from account 2211-607.02-777.000, with no county appropriation required, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request dated August 2, 2023, being on file with the official records of the February 7, 2024 meeting of the Human Services Committee of this Board), and the Chief Financial Officer is directed to record the attached budget amendment.
