BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Genesee County Probate Court and Specialty Courts Office is respectfully requesting approval to create a part-time mental health court advocate position. This position will be under the direction and supervision of the Specialty Courts Director. The position is fully funded by the Michigan Mental Health Court Grant Program and does not require a county match.

DISCUSSION:
The mental health court advocate is necessary to identify and screen potential program participants in the Genesee County Jail and community who may be eligible for the mental health court program, among other duties for the program.

The mental health court is an important program to divert individuals who suffer from mental illness from the criminal justice system into a specialty court to focus on recovery and stability. This furthers the county’s values of improving the community and quality of life of its residents.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Probate Court Administrator and Specialty Courts Director to authorize establishing, posting, and filling one (1) part-time Social Service Worker - Mental Health Court Advocate position, said position being fully grant funded from account 2925-294.00-702.000 and related fringe accounts with no County match required, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request dated March 28, 2024, and supporting documentation being on file with the official records of the April 17, 2024 meeting of the Finance Committee of this Board), and the Chief Financial Officers is directed to record the attached budget amendment.
