RE: Approval to change a Secretary position to Paralegal position

BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of request to create, post and fill a paralegal position at Genesee County’s Office of the Prosecutor; Family Support Division. Said vacancy is the end result of a secretary retirement which is currently budgeted for.
BACKGROUND:
Michelle Ancira, a long-time secretary has retired as of 8-31-2026. Based on current office workloads, it was determined that a paralegal rather than a secretary will better serve the needs of the Family Support Division.
DISCUSSION:
This position is critical to the efficient operations of the Prosecutor’s Office.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
HR will have to post the position, conduct the application review process, and coordinate with the Prosecutor’s Office to identify qualified applicants for interviews and then go through the hiring process.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Despite the change in position classification, this position is currently budgeted for FY26-27 in account 2380-296.03-702.000., with no additional funding required.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
General costs to support an employee - as stated above this is already a budgeted position.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
General costs to support an employee - as stated above this is already a budgeted position.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
Conforms to promote effective and efficient government services. This position helps to ensure that clients will continue to be served by providing resources within the Prosecutor’s office Family Support Division for cases to proceed through the family court system.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to authorize eliminating a secretary position and establishing, posting, and filling a new paralegal position within the Family Support Division to be funded from account 2380-296.03-702.000 with no additional funding being required, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documentation being on file with the official records of the October 7, 2026 meeting of the Finance Committee of this Board).
