BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval for three (3) staff members to attend the Michigan Association of County Treasurers 2024 summer conference in Thompsonville, Michigan for a cost not to exceed $3000.
BACKGROUND:
The Michigan Association of County Treasurers (MACT) holds at least two annual conferences discussing statutorily required duties of county Treasurers. The annual conferences are generally inexpensive for a three-day conference that includes most meals. It provides a great networking opportunity as a majority of county treasurers attend, as well as allowing for in depth discussion of process and procedures, changes to state law, and other areas pertinent to the operation of the treasurer’s office.
DISCUSSION:
In the past, at least two staff members have attended the annual training at a cost below the travel policy. With the addition of the deputy treasurer position, three staff members will be attending the summer conference. The Treasurer is requesting the Board to approve for three (3) staff members to attend the 2024 summer conference in Thompsonville, Michigan for a cost not to exceed $3000.

There is no impact on Human Resources

The expense of this conference has been included in the fiscal year 2023/2024 adopted budget, therefore, will have no impact on the budget.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
The request has no impact on facilities
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
The conference will have no impact on technology.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
One of the topics generally discussed during these conferences is investment related, which meets the long-term financial stability priority. Networking with other county treasurers to improve processes and procedures within the department can lead to projects supporting an inclusive and collaborative culture, as well as ways to streamline processes potentially having an impact on the foot traffic in our facilities, helping to create a healthy, livable and safe community.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Treasurer to authorize travel and overnight lodging for three (3) employees to attend the Michigan Association of County Treasurers 2024 Summer Conference in Thompsonville, Michigan, August 25 - 28, 2024, at a total cost not to exceed $3,000.00 to be paid from account 1010-253.00-910.004, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documentation being on file with the official records of the July 17, 2024 meeting of the Finance Committee of this Board).
