TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
WHEREAS, October is recognized nationally as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, providing an opportunity to increase awareness of breast cancer, encourage appropriate screening and early detection, support patients and survivors, and remember those whose lives have been lost to the disease; and
WHEREAS, breast cancer remains a significant public-health concern affecting individuals and families throughout Genesee County, Michigan, and the United States; and
WHEREAS, early detection and appropriate medical care can provide important opportunities for treatment, making awareness of breast health, individual risk factors, recommended screening, and regular medical care essential components of breast-cancer awareness; and
WHEREAS, breast cancer affects not only individuals diagnosed with the disease but also their families, friends, caregivers, workplaces, and communities; and
WHEREAS, continued advances in research, diagnosis, treatment, and supportive care have improved outcomes for many individuals diagnosed with breast cancer, while continued research remains essential to further reducing mortality and addressing disparities in prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship; and
WHEREAS, the County of Genesee recognizes the courage of individuals currently undergoing treatment, honors breast cancer survivors, remembers those who have lost their lives, and recognizes the families, caregivers, medical professionals, researchers, and advocates who provide support and work toward defeating this disease; and
WHEREAS, National Breast Cancer Awareness Month provides an opportunity for Genesee County residents to increase awareness, support those affected by breast cancer, and discuss appropriate screening and preventive health measures with qualified health-care professionals;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Genesee County Board of Commissioners hereby recognizes October 2026 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Genesee County; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board encourages residents to educate themselves regarding breast cancer, discuss individual screening recommendations with qualified health-care professionals, support those affected by breast cancer, and participate in appropriate awareness and educational activities; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County of Genesee honors breast cancer survivors, supports those currently battling the disease, remembers those who have passed away, and expresses its appreciation to the health-care professionals, researchers, caregivers, advocates, and families working to combat breast cancer.
