BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval for six Community Corrections employees to attend an overnight travel to the National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies Conference in New Orleans, LA to be held September 8-11, 2024. Authorize the expenditure from account 2300-322.00-910- 004. Request is for the registration fees, travel airfare, accommodations, transportation to and from the hotel and airport, baggage, and food. The total request is not to exceed $17,500.00.
BACKGROUND:
NAPSA: The National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies’ mission is to promote pretrial justice and public safety through rational pretrial decision making and practices informed by evidence. This is their 51st annual conference that will be offering over 55 workshops. The State of Michigan Office of Community Corrections has approved Genesee County Community Corrections to utilize training/travel funds for the National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies Conference.
DISCUSSION:
Genesee County Community Corrections is requesting to attend the NAPSA Conference in New Orleans, LA to gain more insight in pretrial justice and what is new with bail reform. The information that will be retained will assist Genesee County and Genesee County Community Corrections with more information that can be utilized to help discover new programs. Airfare will be approximately $2,862.96 based on current rates but could fluctuate before BOC approval, Registration will be $3,900.00, and hotel approximately $7,607.17. Food, baggage, and airport transportation will be an additional cost.

Estimated cost is not to exceed $17,500.00 for accommodations, registration fees, airfare from Flint, Michigan to New Orleans, LA and back, transportation to and from the hotel and airport, baggage, and food. No general fund money will be used.

By collaborating with other Pretrial Service agencies across the country, we can learn about programs that could help the Genesee County Community Members along with Genesee County Departments. We will be able to build relationships with others that could in return help everyone.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Community Corrections Coordinator to authorize travel and overnight lodging for six (6) staff members to attend the 51st Annual National Association of Pretrial Services Agencies Conference in New Orleans, Lousianca, September 8-11, 2024, at a total cost not to exceed $17,500.00 to be paid from account 2300- 322.00-910.004, with no additional appropriation needed, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documents being on file with the official records of the July 17, 2024 meeting of the Finance Committee of this Board).
