RE: Authorization to enter into contract with THA Architects Engineers

BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Authorize a contract in the amount of $58,000.00 with THA Architects Engineers for design and planning for the Genesee County Legal Resource Center and Legal Records Division.
BACKGROUND:
The Circuit Court Law Library has begun the transition to the Genesee County Legal Resource Center. Design and planning will be provided by THA Architects Engineers. The Legal Records Division requires minor modifications to address shortcomings.
DISCUSSION:
The Genesee County Legal Resource Center design plan will permit the space to be re-purposed for an environment that is both welcoming and informative. The former law library stacks of shelving will be removed, and workspaces designed for public interaction. The Legal Records Division will have one manager’s office built in the existing open space and internal accommodation for staff.

The cost is not to exceed $58,000.00 and all expenses are budgeted in the Courts Capital Projects Fund 4960-255.06-975.007. No additional County appropriation is required.

By communicating the available resources and services to the residents of Genesee County, we contribute to Healthy, Livable & Safe Communities. The process of redesigning the Circuit Court Law Library and transitioning to the Genesee County Legal Resource Center will provide better resources and services to our community. This new design will contribute to the Genesee County priority of Health, Livable & Safe Communities.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Circuit Court Administrator to authorize entering into a contract between Genesee County and THA Architects Engineers for the design and planning of the space for the Genesee County Legal Resource Center and for the Legal Records Division for a term commencing January 1, 2024 through December 31, 2024, at a cost to the County not to exceed $58,000 to be paid from the Courts Capital Projects Fund account no.4960-255.06-975.007, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request dated February 7, 2024, and supporting documentation being on file with the official records of the March 6, 2024 meeting of the Public Works Committee of this Board), and the Chairperson of this Board is authorized to execute the contract on behalf of Genesee County.
