BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval to increase general funds beginning FY27 to cover 50% of the wages for an IT User Support Technician.
BACKGROUND:
The IT User Support Technician position provides day-to-day technical support for County employees, including assistance with computers, software, equipment, and other technology-related needs. The position supports County departments by helping maintain reliable access to the technology needed for daily operations.
DISCUSSION:
The IT User Support Technician position has been funded 50% through grant funding, with the remaining 50% funded by District Court. Due to the loss of grant funding, beginning in FY27 an increase of approximately $55,049.67 in general funding will be required to cover the 50% of wages previously supported by the grant. This amount is subject to adjustment in accordance with the applicable union contract raises. District Court will continue to fund the remaining 50% of the position.

There is no impact on Human Resources.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
This request would increase IT’s FY27 budget by approximately $55,049.67 to cover 50% of the salary and related fringe benefits.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
There is no impact on Facilities.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
Reviewed and requested by IT.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
Supports Long-Term financial stability by appropriately budgeting ongoing personnel costs while ensuring continued IT services remain in place to support effective departmental operations.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Chief Information Officer to authorize an amendment to the Information Technology general fund budget starting FY27, to increase the salary and fringe lines in the amount of $55,049.67 to provide 50% of the funding for the IT User Support Technician, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documentation being on file with the official records of the September 16, 2026 meeting of the Finance Committee of this Board).
