RE: Michigan Transportation Planning Association 2024 Conference Travel Request

BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Staff is requesting approval to send five staff persons to the Michigan Transportation Planning Association (MTPA) 2024 Conference.
BACKGROUND:
MTPA is holding their 2024 Annual Planning Conference in Muskegon, Michigan from Tuesday, July 30th through Friday, August 2nd. This is the main transportation planning conference for metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs) in Michigan and is well attended by Michigan MPOs and our state and federal planning partners. Topics will include Title VI compliance, environmental justice, non-traditional road funding, micro-transit, hazard mitigation, complete streets, electric vehicle planning, and integrated asset management.
DISCUSSION:
This request was approved by the Genesee County Metropolitan Planning Commission at its May 7, 2024 meeting.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
No impact on human resources.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The conference registration, lodging fees, and food are covered under an existing grant through the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The following is an estimate of expenses that will be needed to attend this event.

No impact on technology.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
Participation at this conference aligns with (1) Inclusive, Collaborative Culture as staff will be able to incorporate equitable transportation solutions during the upcoming Call for Projects, in partnership with Genesee County’s local road and transit agencies. Furthermore, attending this conference aligns with (2) Healthy, Livable & Safe Communities as there will be multiple statewide best practices shared on how to improve transportation safety in communities.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Director of Planning to authorize travel and overnight lodging for 5 staff members to attend the Michigan Transportation Planning Association (MTPA) 2024 Annual Conference in Muskegon, Michigan, July 30 - August 2, 2024, at a total cost of $4,585.00 to be paid from accounts 2324-734.01-910.005 and 2324-734.01-913.001, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documentation being on file with the official records of the June 5, 2024 meeting of the Community and Economic Development Committee of this Board).
