BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of $75,000 funding to My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) of Genesee County for capital support of the “Rolling Hills Veteran Facility.” The amount will come from the Veterans Services fund balance.

BACKGROUND:
This housing project is designed to decrease congregate living space by providing Veterans in need of temporary housing their own bedroom and bathroom. This housing is located in a rural setting that promotes mental stability, calmness, peace and tranquility as veterans move toward permanent affordable housing. My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) believes this project aligns with the social determinants of health as well as equity, diversity and inclusion.

DISCUSSION:
MBK has a long-standing history of serving unhoused men 18 and older in Genesee County. MBK’s mission is “Impacting the homeless of Flint and Genesee County by providing shelter and life-transitioning opportunities with dignity, compassion, and respect.” The overarching vision is ending the homeless benchmarks in a manner that is polite, ethical, and effective. MBK believes the client centered approach plays a significant part of their success in housing Veterans within 90 days or less, after entering their programs.

IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
None.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Funding will be allocated from Veterans Services fund balance.

IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
None.

IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
None.

CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
Healthy, Livable & Safe Communities: Having homeless veterans off the streets promotes safe communities, public health, and healthier residents. Inclusive, Collaborative Culture: These funds will expand the role of Veterans Services as a convener for veteran resources in the county to enhance relationships. Community Growth: Collaborating with My Brothers Keeper in helping to plan for housing that meets the needs of homeless veterans.
