TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:

WHEREAS, October is recognized as Polish American Heritage Month, providing an opportunity to celebrate and recognize the history, culture, traditions, achievements, and contributions of Americans of Polish descent; and

WHEREAS, Polish Americans have been part of the American story for centuries, including the arrival of Polish settlers at Jamestown in 1608 and the contributions of Polish immigrants and their descendants to the growth and development of the United States; and

WHEREAS, Polish Americans have made significant contributions to American agriculture, manufacturing, labor, education, medicine, science, business, government, the arts, music, and civic life; and

WHEREAS, Polish Americans have served the United States with distinction in times of war and national crisis, including the service of General Casimir Pulaski and General Thaddeus Kosciuszko during the American Revolutionary War; and

WHEREAS, the history of Polish Americans is particularly significant to Michigan, where Polish American communities have made substantial contributions to the State's industrial, cultural, religious, civic, and economic development; and

WHEREAS, Genesee County's own history is deeply connected to manufacturing, skilled trades, organized labor, immigration, and generations of families who came to the region seeking opportunity and contributed to the development of our communities; and

WHEREAS, the County of Genesee recognizes the contributions of Polish American residents and families who have strengthened our communities through hard work, military service, entrepreneurship, education, faith, public service, and civic participation; and

WHEREAS, Polish American Heritage Month provides an opportunity to preserve and celebrate the traditions and history of Polish Americans while recognizing the enduring contributions of Polish Americans to the United States;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Genesee County Board of Commissioners hereby recognizes October 2026 as Polish American Heritage Month in Genesee County; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board encourages residents to learn about and celebrate Polish American history, culture, traditions, and accomplishments; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the County of Genesee expresses its appreciation to Polish Americans for their enduring contributions to Genesee County, the State of Michigan, and the United States of America.
