BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office requests approval to enter into an agreement with Atlas Township and Goodrich Area Schools to provide dedicated police patrol and School Resource Officer (SRO) services for the term of October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.
BACKGROUND:
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with local municipalities and school districts across Genesee County to provide specialized law enforcement coverage, proactive community policing, and dedicated campus safety services. Under the proposed agreement for Fiscal Year 2026-2027, the Sheriff’s Office will assign dedicated personnel to serve as patrol deputies within Atlas Township and as School Resource Officers (SROs) within the Goodrich Area Schools district. The assigned personnel will facilitate traffic enforcement, crime prevention, campus safety monitoring, and emergency response across the township and school properties during the 2026-2027 school and operational year.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Office of Genesee County Sheriff to authorize entering into an agreement between Genesee County, the Sheriff’s Office, Atlas Township, and Goodrich Area Schools, to provide dedicated police patrol and School Resource Officer (SRO) services for the term commencing October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027, in the total amount of $1,114,466.00, to be paid by Atlas township and Goodrich Area Schools as outlined in the memorandum request and attached proposed budget, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documents being on file with the official records of the September 16, 2026 meeting of the Governmental Operations Committee of this Board), both the Chairperson of this Board and the Sheriff are authorized to execute the contract on behalf of Genesee County, and the Chief Financial Officer is directed to record the appropriate revenue and expenditure account adjustments.
