RE: Acceptance of Healthy Start Extended Grant Funds
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval to accept additional grant funds to extend Healthy Start program services for one month. Federal funder, The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), has provided additional funding to Healthy Start grantees to extend 2023/2024 funding until programs receive their grant awards for funding cycle 2024 - 2029. We request that additional funds be accepted to fund Account- 2211-607.01-801.001 to be utilized for program services from April 1, 2024, through April 30, 2024.
BACKGROUND:
Health Start is an infant mortality reduction program that uses a multidisciplinary approach to provide home visiting services to families in the Genesee County community. This project provides services to over 800 women and infants each year. In addition to home visiting, this program also provides case management, care coordination, and community resource linkages to decrease maternal and infant mortality in populations that are most at risk.
DISCUSSION:
This request is to accept an additional $81,666.00 from federal funder HRSA. Healthy Start funding for fiscal year 2024 has been extended for one month as they are still in the process of reviewing proposals for funding cycle 2024-2029. Acceptance of these additional funds will allow staff to continue to provide essential services to Healthy Start participants through the month of April.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
There is no expected impact on Human Resources.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
All Healthy Start projects received and extension of funds from federal funder HRSA for fiscal year 2023/2024 to maintain Healthy Start services for one month.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
There is no expected impact on facilities.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
There is no expected impact on technology.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
Genesee County Healthy Start continues to support a Healthy, Livable, and Safe Community through the utilization of community resources. Home visiting services provided through the Healthy Start Initiative are shown to decrease maternal and infant mortality, therefore contributing to full term pregnancies and healthy infants.
