BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of accepting the grant award of $25,000 from Region 6 Perinatal Grant Mini Grant for the Glow and Grow project.

BACKGROUND:
The Michigan Perinatal Quality Collaborate is dedicated to improving outcomes for families during the preconception, pregnancy, birth and postpartum periods since 2015. Divided into 10 regions throughout Michigan, Genesee County falls within Region 6 where engaging community members in a collaborative is prioritized. One approach the region has taken is reaching out to community members who are vested in maternal child health outcomes and asking them to bring their experience and knowledge to the collaborative. A Request for Proposal titled “2025 Advancing Healthy Births” was released to ensure healthy birth outcomes, improve equity and reduce disparities to which GCHD applied and was awarded $25,000.

DISCUSSION:
We are requesting the approval of the Subrecipient Agreement from Region 6 Perinatal Quality Collaborative to carry out this innovative project called Glow and Grow. The fiduciary for the grant is Saginaw Health Department. No additional county appropriation is needed.

IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
There is no anticipated impact on human resources related to this request.

IMPACT ON BUDGET:
This will be an addition of $25,000. See budget proposal.

IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
There is no anticipated impact on facilities related to this request.

IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
Staff will use existing technology. No additional technology is needed for this project.

CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
WIC services directly contribute to making our community healthy, livable, and safe as pregnant women and children under age 5 are provided nutritious food, nutrition counseling, breastfeeding support and referrals to other health and community resources. These services help to avert a range of health problems thereby reducing future costly medical interventions and treatments. WIC staff coordinate with numerous community organizations including the schools, local food banks, doctors and more supporting a culture of collaboration. resolution
