BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Re-establish a full-time Administrative Secretary position for the Office of the Prosecutor.
BACKGROUND:
The Administrative Secretary position was changed from full-time to a part-time position in June 2022. This was meant to be a temporary situation when it was requested. This is an appointed position.
DISCUSSION:
The Board’s resolution in 2022 allowing the administrative position to become part-time was based in part on the need for Prosecutor Leyton to keep his longtime assistant until such time as he were able to find a suitable replacement given the unique skill sets and experience required for the job. A suitable replacement was never found and at this time, his longtime assistant is now available to go back to full-time. Prosecutor Leyton is therefore requesting that the position go back to full-time as it is a job that really requires full-time hours.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
No impact since the same person will be filling the position.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
This will be an increase to the general fund of $64,833.88.

CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
This request conforms to County Priorities by investing in a more efficient operation of the Prosecutor’s Office for the furtherance of public safety.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to authorize re-establishing one (1) full-time Administrative Secretary position and eliminating one (1) part-time Administrative Secretary position, said position to be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the Prosecuting Attorney, said position to be fully funded by the General Fund 1010-296.01-702.000 and related fringe accounts, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documentation being on file with the official records of the August 12, 2026 meeting of the Finance Committee of this Board).
