BACKGROUND:
The Tek84 is a full-body scanner designed to detect contraband concealed inside or on a person's body. This advanced technology enables trained Sheriff Office personnel to safely and accurately identify smuggled items such as weapons, fentanyl, electronics, and other drugs. By effectively preventing contraband from entering the jail, the Tek84 not only helps reduce the risk of potential drug overdoses but also enhances overall safety within the facility.
DISCUSSION:
The purchase of the Tek84 full-body scanner was conducted through a competitive bidding process, and Tek84 was selected as the winning bid. The decision to select Tek84 was based on several factors: its cost-effectiveness, its compact size with a footprint of only 10' x 8', and the comprehensive training provided to Sheriff Office personnel

IMPACT ON BUDGET:
There are no General Funds being used for this purchase. The Sheriff’s Office has obtained grant funds for this purchase. The Sheriff Office is using forfeiture funds to pay for the extended warrant that begins after the first year.

Assist in preparing the facility for the installation.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
Providing network data points for the scanner.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
This Purchase Order conform to the County priorities by assisting the Sheriff’s Office making a safer community.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Office of Genesee County Sheriff to authorize entering into a contract between Genesee County and Tek84 to purchase two full-body scanners for the Genesee County Jail, in a total amount not to exceed $365,000.00 in grant funds with no general fund appropriation required, with $186,015.00 to be paid from account 2642-351.01-978.000, $98,985.00 to be paid from account 1010-316.01-978.000, and $80,000.00 to be paid from account 2651-000.00-123.000 for $80,000, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request, contract, and supporting documents being on file with the official records of the August 14, 2024 meeting of the Governmental Operations Committee of this Board), and the Chairperson of this Board is authorized to execute the contract on behalf of Genesee County.
