recommendation

BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Office of the Genesee County Sheriff respectfully requests approval to send two (2) employees to the MIEMSIC Conference in Traverse City from March 7, 2024, through March 10, 2024. The total cost for the conference shall not exceed $2,263.60 and paid for out of the account 2110-313.00-910.005.

BACKGROUND:
The Office of Genesee County Sheriff Paramedic Division respond to life threatening emergencies throughout the county of Genesee. The Paramedic Division is required to maintain a registered Instructor Coordinator by Genesee County Medical Control Authority. Our agency has three (3) working EMS instructors performing EMS education for our agency and community partners. The conference is targeted to EMS instructors in the State of Michigan. The conference provides hard to get continuing education credits for instructors to renew their teaching license. This license is required to provide EMS continuing education credits for EMS providers. Sessions are often targeted at enhancing adult education and new technology updates.

DISCUSSION:
This year, the Office of the Sheriff would like to send two (2) employees to the SMEMSIC conference. Personnel chosen would be Todd Witthuhn and Steven McCorry. Both are licensed Paramedic Instructors through the State of Michigan, are assigned to the Paramedic Division, actively teach EMS personnel, and are required to maintain continuing credits to maintain their licensure.

IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
None

IMPACT ON BUDGET:
This conference will be paid out from account 2110-313.00-910.005. No general funds will be used.

CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
It conforms to the county priorities by assisting the Office of the Sheriff Paramedics to respond to critical emergencies in Genesee County.
