BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Request to eliminate one Tower Security Deputy position and create post and fill one Tower Security Sergeant position.
BACKGROUND:
When the Tower first opened, it was unclear what the requirements of the Security Deputies assigned to this building would be. Since its opening in August, the needs of the Board Office, Administrators, staff, and the public demands additional supervision. These demands include staffing, scheduling, and emergency response within the building. These needs will be better served by a sergeant reporting directly to the building and overseeing deputies assigned, coordinating with the emergency manager, facilities, and operations, as well as the board administrator for specific needs of the building and security. The cost of this upgrade of $55,951.00 will come from adjustments made to the corrections budget accounts as follows 1010-351.00-975.001, 1010-351.00-978.000, and 1010-351.00-980.001

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Office of Genesee County Sheriff to authorize establishing, posting, and filling one (1) new Tower Security Sergeant position, and eliminating one (1) Tower Security Deputy position, said new position being fully funded by adjusting the corrections budget as follows, $5,000 from account #1010-351.00-975.001, $40,951.00 from account #1010-351.00-978.000, and $10,000 from account #1010-351.00-980.001, for the remainder of the fiscal year, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documents being on file with the official records of the March 11, 2026 meeting of the Finance Committee of this Board), and the Chief Financial Officer is directed to record the attached budget amendment.
