BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Genesee County Parks and Recreation staff requests the approval to accept a grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint’s Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Equity Fund, in an amount of $50,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
Grant funds from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Equity Fund are to be used to address inequities in parks and recreation opportunities for Flint children and families by creating and maintaining safe places for play and respite.
DISCUSSION:
These grant funds will be used to replace a playground on City owned property located in the River Park Apartment complex on Carpenter Rd, through Keep Genesee County Beautiful. Making sure playgrounds are safe and usable is critical due to park usage being encouraged as a means to recover both physically and emotionally from events such as the Flint Water Crisis, COVID-19, and the lack of access to resources and services, including lack of a neighborhood school.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Parks and Recreation Director to authorize accepting the grant from the Community Foundation of Greater Flint, in the amount of $50,000.00, to be deposited into account 2084-793.00-674.029, to fund the River Park Playground Project through Keep Genesee County Beautiful, for a period commencing October 1, 2023 through September 30, 2024, with no match requirement, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documents being on file with the official records of the November 8, 2023 meeting of the Public Works Committee of this Board) and the Chief Financial Officer is directed, as necessary, to amend the budget lines associated with this project.
