BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Office of the Genesee County Sheriff requests approval to enter into a Police Service Contract with the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) to provide three (3) certified police officers-specifically one (1) Certified Police Sergeant, one (1) Certified Police Deputy, and one (1) Certified Police Deputy with a K9-to serve as School Resource Officers for the term commencing October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2029. The basic cost of such services is estimated to be, and intended not to exceed, $1,468,502.00 for the initial term, to be paid by GISD.
BACKGROUND:
This contract will provide dedicated law enforcement, emergency preparedness planning, and counseling services to students, teachers, administrators, and parents within the GISD school system. The assigned officers will include a Certified Police Sergeant and two Certified Police Deputies, one of whom serves as a K9 handler with a trained police dog certified annually for explosive detection. GISD will reimburse the County for all actual costs incurred, including salaries, wages, benefits, equipment, vehicle, K9 expenses, and indirect costs.

TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
BE IT RESOLVED, by this Board of County Commissioners of Genesee County, Michigan, that the request by the Office of Genesee County Sheriff to authorize entering into a Police Service Contract between Genesee County, the Office of Genesee County Sheriff, and the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD), whereby the Sheriff’s Office will provide police services including School Resource Officers for the three-year term commencing October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2029, at an estimated cost not to exceed $1,468,502.00 to be fully funded by GISD, is approved (a copy of the memorandum request and supporting documents being on file with the official records of the September 16, 2026 meeting of the Governmental Operations Committee of this Board), and both the Chairperson of this Board and the Sheriff are authorized to execute the contract on behalf of Genesee County.
