BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
This is a request to reclassify one position, Inventory/Billing Clerk to Administrative Secretary. Also, there is a request to eliminate two other positions, (1) End User Computing Technician and (1) IT User Support Technician, and creating two new Solutions Technician positions.
BACKGROUND:
1) Our Inventory/Billing position has been vacant for several months and there have been no qualified candidates. This critical role has been taken on by a technician and there is too much volume and need for accuracy for this to continue. With an increase in administrative duties noted at the same time, having an Administrative Secretary would alleviate both problems.
2) We would like to create a new technical support position (Solutions Technician) that have less requirements than our stringent, IT User Support Technology Technician position and allow for a career path for newer applicants. We would achieve this by eliminating two existing positions (1) End User Support Technician and (1) End User Computing Technician with two Solution Technicians.
There will be no change to the number of FTEs with these changes. The November and December org chart attachments show a before and after staffing arrangement.
DISCUSSION:
Practices and standards change often and rapidly in the technological sphere. This is an answer to changing needs and our need to have staff that are more up to date with current demands.
