BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Office of Genesee County Emergency Management requests to accept a contract between Genesee County and the Genesee County Associations of Fire Chiefs for the term of January 1, 2026, through January 1, 2029., in the amount of $66,774.92 for the term of the contract.
BACKGROUND:
The attached contract ensures The Genesee County Hazmat Team will respond to incidents involving hazardous materials, such as chemical spills, gas leaks, and radiological incidents. The primary goal is to contain and control the release of hazardous substances to protect public health and the environment. The Hazmat Team will assess each situation to identify the hazardous materials involved. Once identified, the team will work to contain and mitigate the release. This may involve sealing leaks, neutralizing chemicals, or using absorbent materials to control spills. The Hazmat Teams goal is to minimize the environmental impact of hazardous materials incidents. The Genesee County Fire Chiefs will attempt to recover the costs of the incident by submitting claims to the parties responsible. Additionally, the Genesee County Fire Chiefs ensures that the Hazmat Team's apparatus, equipment, and supplies needed for responding to hazardous material incidents are properly maintained. The Genesee County Fire Chief also agree to be listed as the primary response team for the Genesee County Water and Waste Department with two sites in Genesee County and one in Lapeer County.
