BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office requests approval to enter into an agreement with Motherly Intercession to provide ongoing support services to incarcerated individuals in the Genesee County Jail and their families for the term of October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027. The cost of this service is $50,000.00 tis budgeted for in FY 26-27.
BACKGROUND:
The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office has worked with Motherly Intercession for over twenty-five years. Motherly Intercession's long-standing commitment to support and foster justice-impacted families in Genesee County cannot be duplicated. Their dedication to this population has been one of compassion, empathy, and service, ensuring children of incarcerated individuals procure lasting relationships with their parents. Motherly Intercession offers the following services: Survey in-custody inmates to determine eligible children. Conduct face-to-face interviews of inmates to collect the children’s names and ages, as well as the contact information for the parent(s)/guardian(s)/caretaker(s). Communicate with Genesee County Sheriff's Office staff to confirm any court orders or restrictions preventing the inmate from having a contact visit with their child. Contact parent(s)/guardian(s)/caretaker(s) to gain consent for the child to attend a contact visit with the incarcerated parent. Verify parental rights.
