BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval to create, post and fill twelve (12) Marine Patrol Deputy positions to provide safe waterways throughout Genesee County during the active summer months. This request includes one (1) Senior Marine Patrol Deputy and eleven (11) Marine Patrol Deputies. The cost of these positions is to be paid from account #1010-331.00-702.000 and related fringe accounts. A majority of these expenses will be covered by a safe waterways grant offered by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Costs not covered by this grant will be paid from the sheriff's Office forfeiture account from account 2651-311.00-702.000 and related fringe accounts.
BACKGROUND:
Every year the Sheriff's Office hires seasonal Marine Patrol Deputies to provide safe waterways throughout Genesee County. Some of these will be returning hires based on their performance from previous years and availability.

IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
Create, post, and fill twelve (12) marine patrol deputy positions.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The cost for the seasonal positions is paid from account # 1010-331.00-702.000 and related fringe accounts. The Sheriff's Office has submitted a grant application to the Michigan DNR, but the amount of this grant is yet to be determined. The Sheriff's Office is also continuing their partnership with Michigan Works to assist with covering training hourly wages and FICA cost. Any additional cost will be covered by the sheriff's forfeiture fund from account 2651-311.00-702.000 and related fringe accounts.
