BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of an agreement between the University of Michigan-Flint and Genesee County to provide practicum experience opportunities for University students.
BACKGROUND:
The University of Michigan-Flint's BSW and MSW practicum programs are designed to prepare future social work professionals with the skills needed to promote meaningful change in communities. Through hands-on practicum experiences, students apply classroom learning in real-world settings, developing core competencies and gaining practical experience under the guidance of qualified field instructors.
DISCUSSION:
The Genesee County Health Department will provide practicum experience to students enrolled in the University of Michigan-Flint's BSW and MSW programs. Health Department staff will collaborate with student interns to develop goals and objectives that align with the University of Michigan - Flint's practicum requirements and CSWE core competencies. This partnership is supported by an active affiliation agreement that outlines the arrangement between the University of Michigan - Flint Practicum Education Office and Genesee County. No funding or county appropriation is needed.
