RE: Approval of a request to create, post & fill two (2) Full Time Park Rangers at Genesee County's Parks & Recreation Commission; the cost of this request will be paid from account 2080-764.00-702.000
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Genesee County Parks and Recreation staff requests the approval to post and hire two (2) full-time Park Rangers.
BACKGROUND:
The request to hire two full-time Park Rangers is necessary to ensure consistent staffing and adequate coverage of park properties and scheduled shifts. Securing shift coverage from seasonal Park Rangers has become increasingly challenging, as many accept overtime opportunities with their full-time agencies, limiting their availability to cover shifts. Full-time positions will provide coverage of all shifts and seasonal Park Rangers will supplement.
DISCUSSION:
By establishing two (2) full-time positions, the department can provide stable staffing, improve coverage across all park properties, enhance public safety and customer service, and maintain a consistent level of park operations without increasing the overall personnel budget.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
To establish, post and fill two (2) Park Ranger positions and commence the hiring process.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
NO USE OF GENERAL FUND.
To be paid from account 2080-764.00-702.000 and related fringe accounts.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
None.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
None.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
The request to hire two full-time Park Rangers aligns with Genesee County's priorities by enhancing public safety, improving the quality and reliability of park services, and supporting community growth through well maintained, accessible parks. This will provide consistent staffing, strengthen operational efficiency, and ensure visitors receive safe, welcoming, and high quality experiences while making effective use of existing personnel ...
