recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval to create, post and fill twelve (12) Marine Patrol Deputies for seasonal duties to patrol the waterways of Genesee County throughout the summer months. The cost of these positions will be paid from account # 1010-331.00-702.000 Sheriff's Office.
BACKGROUND:
Every year the Office of Genesee County Sheriff hires seasonal Marine Patrol Deputies to provide safe waterways throughout Genesee County. With the addition of another boat last season the hiring of 12 deputies would allow the staff to patrol more waterways throughout the summer.

IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
Create, post and fill twelve (12) seasonal marine patrol deputy positions.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
The cost for the seasonal positions is paid from the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Office has submitted a request from the Michigan DNR to provide a grant for funding of this seasonal staffing. This is a process that is a yearly routine, but amount is not confirmed until later in the year. The Sheriff's Office is also continuing their partnership with MI Works and will be covering training hours wages and FICA cost in the 1010-331.00 accounts. For the 2025 season the Sheriff's Office has 6 deputies including a senior marine patrol deputy hoping to return and seek out 6 more. In the event that the grant is not approved, the funding will be provided by the Sheriff's forfeiture fund.
