RE: Request authorization to submit the CACFP Food Proposal and Authorize the Budget for 2023-2024
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) requests authorization to submit a Head Start and GCCARD Nutrition Services food proposal and potential agreement to the Michigan Department of Education, Child and Adult Care Food Program for $982,862.25 reimbursement and budgetary authorization to fund this expenditure driven grant to be used for the 2023-2024 school year from this committee and recommendation of acceptance by the full Genesee County Board of Commissioners at their next regularly scheduled meeting.
BACKGROUND:
A partnership is established with the Michigan Department of Education, Child and Adult Care food program and the County of Genesee GCCARD Department to pay for nutritional services. Since this program is expenditure driven, the County/GCCARD must pay for the services and then file for reimbursement with the Michigan Department of Education, Child and Adult Care Food Program. The Head Start Program serves breakfast, lunch and snacks to the students. The total budget is estimated to be $889,136.25. The Child and Adult Care Food Program would reimburse $2.25 per breakfast, $4.545 per lunch and $1.17 per snack. The amount is an estimated figure based on 91,400 breakfasts, lunches, and snacks to be served for the 2023-2024 school year. If the numbers are increased or reduced, the budget amount will be adjusted. GCCARD Nutrition Services serves breakfast, lunch, and snacks for students at at-risk sites, totaling $93,726.00 (See attached budget).
DISCUSSION:
GCCARD requests authorization to submit the food proposal and potential agreement for $982,862.25 reimbursement and budgetary authorization to fund this expenditure driven grant as described above.
