BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of a request to sell the property at 809 S. Ballenger Highway.
BACKGROUND:
Earlier this year, the Treasurer's Office foreclosed on the property, located at 809 S. Ballenger Highway, because of delinquent property taxes after years of litigation over who rightfully owned the apartments and transferred it to Genesee County to be demolished and sold. The demolition and sale of the Ballenger apartments are important because of the business and community development that's already occurred in the area, including an expanded McLaren campus and Coolidge Apartments which opened in 2019 after the redevelopment of the former Coolidge Elementary School.
DISCUSSION:
The agreed upon purchase price is $247,000 to McLaren Health Care
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
No impact on Human Resources.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
This will provide a positive impact on the budget.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
The sale of this property will positively impact Facilities by removing the need to maintain this property.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
No impact on IT.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
The Board of Commissioners have adopted the priority of Healthy, Livable and Safe Communities and removing this blighted hazardous building will improve the surrounding area tremendously.
