Approval of a request to providing $15,000 for the 51st Annual Gus Macker Tournament
BACKGROUND:
The Salvation Army- Life Center would like to request $15,000 from the Accommodation Tax Fund Balance in support of 51st Annual Gus Macker Tournament to be held at the Downtown Flat Lot in Flint, MI is 125 E Kearsley St, Flint, MI 48502 on July 25-27, 2025.
Founded in 1974 by Scott McNeal, the Macker tournament began as a small, backyard gathering of friends in Lowell, Michigan. Over the years, it has grown into a nationwide phenomenon, bringing people of all ages and backgrounds together through the love of basketball. Celebrating its 51st anniversary this year, this three-day event takes place on the Flat Lot in downtown Flint, 125 E. Kearsley Street. The Gus Macker 3 on 3 basketball tournament offers family fun events in a positive safe environment. The event will boast food trucks, vendors, sponsors, and tons of action-packed play from teams of ages, up to 200 teams, over this two-day tournament.
DISCUSSION:
Genesee County has sponsored this event for several years. Each tournament draws hundreds of participants to our region for the length of the event.

There is available fund balance in the Accommodation Tax Fund. This will be paid from account 2180-729.00-899.000.
