RE: Approval of Operation Green Light for Veterans in Genesee County
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of Operation Green Light for Genesee County Veterans each Veterans Day
BACKGROUND:
America's counties have a long and proud history of serving our nation's veterans, a legacy that continues to this day as we work with our federal, state and local partners to ensure that the former service members in our communities have access to the resources they need to thrive
DISCUSSION:
This coming Veterans Day, the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO) invite the nation's 3,069 counties, parishes and boroughs to join Operation Green Light and show support for veterans by lighting our buildings green from November 4 to November 11. By shining a green light, county governments and our residents will let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
None.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
None. Items for Operation Green Light were budgeted in Veterans under Community Relations, GL#2930-689.00-900.005.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
Update green lighting at the Administration building, courthouse, and other county buildings if possible.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
None.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
Formally acknowledging our county veterans in such a way as Operation Green Light shows that we value their service. Veterans represent our values of integrity and teamwork. Shining a light on them during this time helps us to further communicate available resources and services to veterans. It also expands our role of the county as a convener by encouraging other businesses and entities to join in this endeavor.
