BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Genesee County Parks and Recreation staff request approval to accept a grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, for work associated with the Flint Riverfront Restoration Project, in the amount of $1,000,000.
BACKGROUND:
The Flint Riverfront Restoration project is transforming the Flint River and its waterfront from a neglected resource into a healthy and vibrant community asset. A renovated Riverbank Park will provide new amenities and new outdoor and recreational opportunities. The investment in this project will spur additional economic activity in the downtown Flint and surrounding community. Riverbank Park encompasses 6 acres or 261,360 sq. ft.
DISCUSSION:
The property and project site includes the Grand Fountain Block, Waterwall Block, Amphitheater Block, and Marketstall Block.

None.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
NO USE OF PARKS MILLAGE OR PARKS GENERAL FUND. NO USE OF GENERAL FUND. No match.

CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
The Flint Riverfront Restoration Project aligns strongly with the priorities of the County's priorities by supporting economic development, environmental stewardship, community revitalization, and quality of life. The project will enhance a vital community asset, improve public access to the Flint River, strengthen recreational opportunities, and contribute to the continued revitalization of the City of Flint and surrounding Genesee County communities. This project supports long-term economic and social vitality throughout the county.
