RE: Parks Request to Approve Proposed 5-Year Parks Plan for DNR
recommendation
BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Genesee County Parks and Recreation staff requests the approval of the proposed 5-Year Parks Plan for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. The plan will be valid 2024-2029.
BACKGROUND:
To be eligible to apply for Recreation Passport, Land and Water Conservation Fund, Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund and Waterways grants, Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission (GCPRC) must have an approved 5-Year Plan on file with the Department of Natural Resources.
The Plan outlines possible project opportunities to improve facilities/park properties in the event that funding becomes available. Included in the plan is an inventory of Genesee County Parks and Recreation Commission owned parks and facilities. Any parks and facilities not owned by GCPRC are not included. Partnership Agreements for parks and facilities maintained or operated by GCPRC may be included as an Appendix item to exhibit collaborations and cooperative relationships within the community. Local municipalities have also been invited to opt-in to our submission, increasing collaboration opportunities and community growth.
DISCUSSION:
Public review of the draft plan was made available October 16 through November 16, 2023, at seven district library locations, the Parks Administration Building, the Genesee County Administration Building, and digital by request.
Request for public review and public comment was advertised via social media, Parks website, and local print.
