TO THE HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE GENESEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS, GENESEE COUNTY, MICHIGAN
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN:
WHEREAS, human trafficking is a serious crime and a violation of human rights that involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to exploit individuals for labor or commercial sex; and
WHEREAS, human trafficking affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds, and can occur in both urban and rural communities, including within Genesee County; and
WHEREAS, victims of human trafficking often go unidentified due to fear, trauma, language barriers, or lack of awareness within the community; and
WHEREAS, January is nationally recognized as Human Trafficking Prevention Month, providing an opportunity to educate the public, promote prevention efforts, and support survivors; and
WHEREAS, increased public awareness, education, and collaboration among local governments, law enforcement, service providers, and community organizations are critical to preventing human trafficking and assisting victims; and
WHEREAS, the Genesee County Board of Commissioners is committed to promoting public safety, protecting vulnerable populations, and supporting efforts that prevent exploitation and abuse;
