BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval of a request by Genesee County's Sheriff Office to accept a grant from Region 3 (LETPA) State Homeland Security Program, in an amount not to exceed $4,851.09, for the purchase of Auxiliary Radio Communication equipment; this will be paid from account 2830-426.00-752.000 and is fully grant-funded.
BACKGROUND:
This grant will allow the Genesee County Sheriff's Office to purchase auxiliary radio and GPS equipment to support Emergency Management during extreme incidents such as acts of terror and weather-related disasters. The equipment will be used by the Emergency Management team and voluntary aux/com operators to ensure there is no delay in communications during these events.
DISCUSSION:
This project will replace existing equipment that is already in place at the Genesee County Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (Races) tower access location. This new equipment, UHF Duplexer, RTCM, and GPS units for the RTCM will be added to the existing equipment. The upgrade will allow sustained/enhanced RACES communication in the region 3 area, which provides or supplements emergency radio communication in times of emergency including acts of terrorism, bomb threats, natural disasters, nuclear accidents and/or nuclear attacks.
