BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
Approval to accept a grant award from the Michigan Arts & Culture Council in the amount of $13,448 to provide visual and performing arts workshops to youth detained at the Juvenile Justice Center and the Learning Co-op; the term of this grant is from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025; the revenue from this grant will be accounted for per the attached budget form.
BACKGROUND:
Research has shown that arts programming offers one of the best ways to help detained and justice-involved youth heal and become rehabilitated. Since 2011, the Circuit Court - Family Division, has partnered with Youth Arts: Unlocked (YAU) (formerly the Buckham/GVRC Share Art Project) to provide weekly strengths-based, trauma informed visual and performing arts programming to youth at the GCJJC and to youth on probation.
DISCUSSION:
The Circuit Court - Family Division will utilize the grant funds to partner with Youth Arts: Unlocked to offer strengths-based, trauma informed visual and performing arts workshops to youth detained at Genesee County's secure detention facility, Genesee County Juvenile Justice Center (GCJJC), and to youth on probation. Workshops will be taught by professional artists, actors, dancers, and writers who are experienced working with at-risk teens

The $3,362 match requirement will be supported through approved contracts paid from 2920-663.07- 801.028 and 2920-356.00-801.028 as approved by the grantor....
