BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
The Genesee County Community Action Resource Department (GCCARD) requests authorization from this committee to accept an agreement between Genesee County and the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) for fiscal year 2027 (FY27), with a recommendation of approval by the full Genesee County Board of Commissioners at their next regularly scheduled meeting.
BACKGROUND:
GCCARD’s USDA Supplemental Food Program received notification from MDE to act as subdistributor of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) foods for TEFAP for the period commencing October 01, 2026, through September 30, 2027. GCCARD will store and distribute USDA foods to individuals and families facing food crisis in Genesee County.
DISCUSSION:
TEFAP is a federal program that helps supplement the diets of income-eligible individuals and families by providing them with emergency food assistance at no cost. The period of this agreement commences October 01, 2026, through September 30, 2027.
IMPACT ON HUMAN RESOURCES:
There will be no impact on Human Resources.
IMPACT ON BUDGET:
Budget will be uploaded at a later date. No General Fund appropriation is required for this request.
IMPACT ON FACILITIES:
There will be no impact on facilities.
IMPACT ON TECHNOLOGY:
There will be no impact on technology.
CONFORMITY TO COUNTY PRIORITIES:
This agreement conforms to Genesee County’s priority of Healthy, Livable and Safe Communities promoting public health by ensuring eligible Genesee County residents have access to healthy foods so they may create nutritious meals for themselves and their families.
