BOARD ACTION REQUESTED:
67th District Court respectfully requests approval to accept the Treatment Court Discretionary Grant Program award through the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) in the amount of $763,185 for fiscal year 2025 through fiscal year 2028 to provide funding for the Genesee County Sobriety Court (GCSC).
BACKGROUND:
Genesee County Sobriety Court is in its 9th year of operation. GCSC maintains its operation with the assistance of funding through grants.
DISCUSSION:
The award of $763,185 from the BJA grant covers fiscal years 2025-2028, October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2028. The grant funds will be used to expand Genesee County Sobriety Court's treatment services. The Bureau of Justice Assistance grant requires a 25% match. A submission has been made to BJA requesting a waiver of the 25% match. The sobriety court coordinator is currently waiting for a response. If the match is not waived by BJA, the 25% match would be in-kind from Sobriety Court's treatment provider Flint Odyssey House. County appropriated funds are not being requested.
